Finding the Best Treatments Used For Cellulitis

The bacteria causing the cellulitis are considered non-harmful. However, if the skin is highly exposed to blisters, burns, cuts and other types of wounds, then this is the time that one should be wary of the existence of the said bacteria. There are different ways to treat cellulitis depending on how mild or severe the case is and all of them are discussed below.

Before discussing the cellulitis treatment, you need to know what cellulitis is and how it affects our body. One might think that cellulites are the same with cellulitis. However, this is not true. Cellulites is a cosmetic condition while cellulitis is the inflammation of the skin and can often be seen in patients who had previous skin problems like burns, cuts, blisters, boils, bites and other types of wounds. Cellulitis is caused by the bacteria Streptococcus and Staphylococcus.

Different Ways to Treat Cellulitis

The first thing that one can do in treating cellulitis is by getting enough rest and cleaning the affected area. In doing so, it will prevent the affected area from being infected by more bacteria and become a severe case of skin infection. Taking oral antibiotics is highly advisable for people who are experiencing its symptoms even in the mildest of cases.

Treatment for Staphylococcal and Streptococcal Infection

The treatment for cellulitis is not that complicated. First aid measures can be done at home to further prevent the bacteria from spreading and increasing. For mild infections, which are usually caused by the Staphylococcus bacteria, the Flucloxacillin monotherapy is used. For moderate cases caused by the Streptococcus bacteria, Flucloxacillin monotherapy is often accompanied by oral phenoxymethylpenicillin or intravenous benzylpenicillin can also be administered or ampicillin or amoxicillin. Pain relievers are also given to the patients especially for excessive pain, as it may be a sign of a deeper and more severe infection.

Treatment for Severe Cases

For severe cases of cellulitis, the patient is highly recommended to seek hospital care in order to attend to complications that may arise due to the cellulitis infection. You may want to be admitted in the nearest hospital for intravenous therapy or therapy by running fluids and medicines into the veins to treat your skin infection.
